अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)
जातीमरणभीरूणां यतीनां यततां विभो
jātimaraṇabhīrūṇāṁ yatīnāṁ yatatāṁ vibho
Ó Senhor, (isto é dito) a respeito dos yatis, os renunciantes que temem o ciclo de nascimento e morte—aqueles que se empenham com disciplina (rumo à libertação).
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights the spiritual motivation of true renunciants: fear of repeated birth and death (saṁsāra) drives them to sustained effort and disciplined striving toward liberation.
Vāyudeva addresses a revered figure as “Vibhu,” introducing a point about ascetics—those who, fearing the bondage of birth and death, undertake rigorous effort and restraint.
