Bhīṣma’s Yogic Departure, Royal Cremation, and Gaṅgā’s Lament (भीष्मस्य योगयुक्त्या देहत्यागः, पितृमेधः, गङ्गाविलापः)
स भवान् पुरुषव्याप्र ब्रह्मभूत:ः सनातन: । यदर्थमनुशिष्टा: स्मो गिरिपृष्ठे महात्मना
Nārada uvāca: sa bhavān puruṣa-vyāghra brahma-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ | yad-artham anuśiṣṭāḥ smo giri-pṛṣṭhe mahātmanā ||
Nārada disse: “Ó tigre entre os homens, tu és esse Ser eterno que se tornou o próprio Brahman. Por tua causa o grande Senhor nos instruiu nas alturas do Himalaia.”
नारद उवाच
The verse affirms a theological conclusion: Kṛṣṇa is identified as the eternal, supreme Person (sanātana puruṣa) and as Brahman itself (brahma-bhūtaḥ). Nārada presents this as a settled conviction based on Śiva’s authoritative discourse and the witnessing of an extraordinary, inconceivable event.
Nārada addresses Kṛṣṇa, reporting that after hearing Śiva’s conversation with Pārvatī about Kṛṣṇa—and after seeing a marvelous occurrence—everyone present is astonished and concludes that Kṛṣṇa is the very divine reality for whose sake Śiva had earlier instructed them on the Himalayan heights.
