Adhyāya 152 — Bhīṣma’s Authorization for Yudhiṣṭhira’s Return to the Capital (नगरप्रवेशानुज्ञा)

उमाने कहा--भगवन्‌! सर्वभूतेश्वर! भूत

strī ca bhūteśa satataṃ striyam evānudhāvati | mayā sammānitāś caiva bhaviṣyanti saridvarāḥ ||

Umā disse: “Ó Senhor Bem-aventurado, soberano de todos os seres—ó Mahādeva, Supremo e que encarnas passado, futuro e presente—pelo teu poder, minha fala tornou-se inspirada; agora posso descrever o dharma das mulheres. Contudo, ó Senhor dos deuses, estes rios excelentes, repletos das águas de todos os vaús sagrados, aproximam-se de ti para os teus ritos de banho e de sorver a água (ācaman), ou para tocar os teus pés. Depois de consultá-los, exporei, na devida ordem, os deveres das mulheres. Só é verdadeiramente chamado ‘homem’ aquele que, embora capaz, está livre de arrogância. (Verso) “E, ó Senhor dos seres, uma mulher segue continuamente uma mulher; e esses melhores dos rios, por mim honrados, hão de tornar-se de fato propícios e bem-dispostos.”
