Vyuṣṭi (Merit-Outcome) of Honoring Brāhmaṇas: Kṛṣṇa and Durvāsā
iha pṛthivyāṃ ye kecid carācarāḥ prāṇinaḥ santi teṣāṃ pitā-mātā prabhuś ca utpatti-sthānaṃ ca bhavān eva. evaṃ no vismayakaraṃ saṃśayaṃ madhusūdana; tvam evāhasi kalyāṇa vaktuṃ vahnir-vinirgamam. madhusūdana, tava mukhād agneḥ prādurbhāvo ’smākaṃ evam atīva vismayakaro ’bhavat; vayaṃ saṃśaye patitāḥ. kalyāṇamaya śrīkṛṣṇa, tvam eva kāraṇaṃ vaktvā asmākaṃ saṃśaya-vismaya-nivāraṇaṃ kartum arhasi.
The verse affirms Krishna’s cosmic sovereignty: all beings have their ultimate origin, governance, and support in the Divine. When extraordinary signs appear (here, fire manifesting), the proper response is to seek clarification from the highest source of truth, so that doubt and bewilderment are transformed into understanding.
Bhishma addresses Krishna with reverence, describing a wondrous manifestation—fire emerging from Krishna’s mouth—which has left the observers astonished and uncertain. He requests Krishna to explain the cause of this event and to dispel their doubt and amazement.
