Adhyāya 142: Cyavana, the Devas’ Arrogance, and Vāyu’s Counsel on Protecting Brāhmaṇas
सावित्र: कुण्डलं दिव्यं यानं च जनमेजय: । ब्राह्मणाय च गा दत्त्वा गतो लोकाननुत्तमान्,सूर्यपुत्र कर्ण अपना दिव्य कुण्डल देकर तथा महाराजा जनमेजय ब्राह्मणको सवारी और गौ दान करके उत्तम लोकोंमें गये हैं
sāvitraḥ kuṇḍalaṃ divyaṃ yānaṃ ca janamejayaḥ | brāhmaṇāya ca gā dattvā gato lokān anuttamān ||
Disse Bhīṣma: Sāvitra, ao doar seu ornamento divino de orelha, e o rei Janamejaya, ao oferecer a um brāhmaṇa um veículo e vacas, alcançaram os mundos insuperáveis.
भीष्म उवाच
That dāna performed in accordance with dharma—especially giving valuable items like ornaments, vehicles, and cows to worthy recipients such as brāhmaṇas—generates great merit and is portrayed as leading to the highest realms.
Bhīṣma cites exemplars: Sāvitra gives away a divine earring, and King Janamejaya donates a conveyance and cows to a brāhmaṇa; both are said to have attained unsurpassed worlds, reinforcing the discourse on the fruits of charity.
