Adhyāya 142: Cyavana, the Devas’ Arrogance, and Vāyu’s Counsel on Protecting Brāhmaṇas
Bhishma teaches that the householder path, when grounded in charity (dāna) and disciplined austerity (tapas), yields both higher spiritual attainments (lokas) and an enduring moral reputation (kīrti) that lasts as long as the world itself.
In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma continues his instruction on dharma, praising the exemplary conduct of householders. Here he emphasizes that those who practice giving and self-restraint secure higher realms and leave behind lasting fame in the human world.
