धौग्य उवाच भिन्नभाण्डं च खट्वां च कुक्कुटं शुनकं॑ तथा । अप्रशस्तानि सर्वाणि यश्न वृक्षो गृहेरुह:

Transliteration

Dhaumya uvāca: bhinnabhāṇḍaṃ ca khaṭvāṃ ca kukkuṭaṃ śunakaṃ tathā | apraśastāni sarvāṇi yaś ca vṛkṣo gṛheruhaḥ ||

Translation

Dhaumya disse: “Um vaso quebrado, um leito quebrado, um galo e um cão — e, do mesmo modo, qualquer árvore que tenha crescido dentro do recinto da casa — tudo isso é tido por inauspicioso. Num lar bem ordenado, tais coisas são evitadas pela tradição, pois se crê que perturbam a harmonia doméstica e o decoro.”
