Nārāyaṇa-tejas: Kṛṣṇa’s Vrata, the Fire-Manifestation, and the Sages’ Inquiry (अनुशासन पर्व, अध्याय १२६)
“जो सब प्रकारकी विद्याओंमें प्रवीण है, वही नेत्रवान् है और तपस्वी, चाहे जैसा हो उसे भी नेत्रवान् ही कहा जाता है। इन दोनोंको सदा नमस्कार करना चाहिये ।।
bhīṣma uvāca | sarve pūjyāḥ śrutadhanās tathaiva ca tapasvinaḥ | dānapradāḥ sukhaṃ pretya prāpnuvantīha ca śriyam ||
Bhishma disse: “Todos os que são ricos em saber e todos os ascetas são dignos de reverência. Aqueles que oferecem dádivas alcançam felicidade após a morte e, neste mundo, também obtêm prosperidade.”
भीष्म उवाच
Honor those who possess learning and those who practice austerity; and practice charity, because giving yields both worldly prosperity and posthumous happiness.
In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma, he lays down a norm of social and moral conduct: the learned and the ascetic are to be revered, and the giver is praised for gaining benefits in both this life and the next.
