Chitrāṅgada’s duel with the Gandharva and Vicitravīrya’s consecration
हवि:श्रवास्तथेन्द्रा भो भुमन्युश्चापराजित: । धृतराष्ट्रसुतानां तु त्रीनेतान् प्रथितान् भुवि
haviḥśravās tathendrā bho bhumanyuś cāparājitaḥ | dhṛtarāṣṭrasutānāṃ tu trīn etān prathitān bhuvi ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: “Haviḥśravā, e Indrā —ó ouvinte—, e ainda Bhumanyu e Aparājita: estes três, entre os filhos de Dhṛtarāṣṭra, eram afamados sobre a terra.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores how worldly renown (prathā) attaches to individuals within a royal lineage; it functions as a reminder that names and reputations are recorded and remembered, setting the stage for later ethical evaluation of the Kuru family’s conduct.
Vaiśampāyana is enumerating specific sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, identifying three—Haviḥśravā, Indrā, and Bhumanyu (along with Aparājita as named)—as being well-known on earth, as part of a broader genealogical/catalogue passage in the Ādi Parva.
