Yayāti–Indra Dialogue and Aṣṭaka’s Inquiry
वैशम्पायन उवाच एवं पृष्टवा तु राजानं कुमारान् पर्यपृच्छत । वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! राजासे इस प्रकार पूछकर उसने उन कुमारोंसे प्रश्न किया
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: evaṃ pṛṣṭvā tu rājānaṃ kumārān paryapṛcchat.
Disse Vaiśampāyana: Tendo assim interrogado o rei, passou então a interrogar também os príncipes—prosseguindo a investigação de modo ordenado, buscando um relato mais completo e mais responsável de todos os envolvidos.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined inquiry and accountability: after questioning the king, the questioner also examines the princes, implying that responsibility and truth-seeking require hearing multiple parties, not relying on a single authority.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that, after asking the king in a particular manner, the inquirer continues by questioning the princes as well, indicating a step-by-step investigation or clarification of events.
