Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
उद्दीपितं येन वैरं भूतान्तकरणं महत् | पौलस्त्या भ्रातरश्नास्य जज्ञिरे मनुजेष्विह,उसके द्वारा प्रजजलित की हुई वैरकी भारी आग असंख्य प्राणियोंके विनाशका कारण बन गयी। पुलस्त्य-कुलके राक्षस भी मनुष्योंमें दुर्योधनके भाइयोंके रूपमें उत्पन्न हुए थे
uddīpitaṁ yena vairaṁ bhūtāntakaraṇaṁ mahat | paulastyā bhrātaraś cāsya jajñire manuṣeṣv iha ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana disse: Por causa dele foi atiçado o fogo ardente da inimizade—vasto e ruinoso—trazendo destruição a incontáveis seres. E aqui, no mundo dos homens, os irmãos daquele nasceram como rākṣasas da linhagem de Pulastya.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Unchecked enmity, once inflamed, spreads like a great fire and becomes a cause of widespread destruction; the verse frames hostility as ethically catastrophic, not merely personal.
Vaiśampāyana explains that a powerful feud was ignited leading to massive ruin, and notes that certain beings of the Pulastya rākṣasa line took birth among humans as the brothers associated with the central antagonist (as understood in the traditional gloss).
