Āstīka Stops the Sarpa-satra; Royal Closure and Protective Phalaśruti (आस्तीकः सर्पसत्रनिवर्तनम्)
सर्व विस्तरशस्तात भवाझुछंसितुमहति । सर्पसत्रविधानज्ञविज्ञेया: के च सूतज,तात! ये सब बातें आप विस्तारपूर्वक बताइये। सूतपुत्र! यह भी सूचित कीजिये कि सर्पसत्रकी विधिको जाननेवाले दिद्दानोंमें श्रेष्ठ समझे जानेयोग्य कौन-कौनसे महर्षि वहाँ उपस्थित थे
sarvaṃ vistaraśas tāta bhavān uccheṃsitum arhati | sarpasatravidhānajñā vijñeyāḥ ke ca sūtaja ||
Śaunaka disse: “Meu caro, narra tudo isso com pleno detalhe. E, ó filho do Sūta, indica também quais sábios ali estavam, tidos por primeiros entre os que conheciam o rito e o procedimento correto do sacrifício das serpentes.”
शौनक उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined inquiry and faithful transmission: sacred history and ritual knowledge should be narrated fully and with attention to authoritative sources—especially identifying competent experts present in the ritual context.
In the forest-assembly of sages, Śaunaka prompts Sauti to continue the Mahābhārata narration in greater detail and asks him to name the foremost sages who knew the correct procedure of the serpent-sacrifice being discussed.
