Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds the ideal of pativratā-dharma—steadfast marital devotion—while also showing how beauty and affectionate conduct can strengthen a king’s attachment, a narrative motif that often precedes ethical tests in royal settings.

A queen, famed for beauty and fidelity, has become the king’s wife and, as the foremost beauty of the inner palace, delights him during leisure and recreation, emphasizing the intimacy and allure of courtly life.
