Chapter 213
तेषु प्रबोध्यमानेषु ज्वलितेषु हुतेषु च कृतपुष्पोपहारेषु तीरान्तरगतेषु च,गंगाके तटपर जब अलग-अलग अग्नियाँ प्रज्वलित हो गयीं और सन्मार्गमें स्थित एवं मन-इन्द्रियोंको वशमें रखनेवाले विद्वान् ब्राह्मणलोग स्नान करके फूलोंके उपहार चढ़ाकर जब पूर्वोक्त अग्नियोंमें आहुति दे चुके, तब उन महात्माओंके द्वारा उस गंगाद्वार नामक तीर्थकी शोभा बहुत बढ़ गयी
teṣu prabodhyamāneṣu jvaliteṣu huteṣu ca kṛtapūṣpopahāreṣu tīrāntaragateṣu ca
Vaiśampāyana disse: Quando aqueles fogos sagrados eram acesos, quando ardiam em chamas e as oblações já haviam sido lançadas neles, e quando as oferendas florais foram devidamente feitas nos diversos pontos do vau, a margem do rio—em Gaṅgādvāra—resplandeceu ainda mais. Os sábios brāhmaṇas, disciplinados e firmes no caminho do dharma, após se banharem e realizarem as oferendas ao fogo com domínio da mente e dos sentidos, aumentaram a santidade e o esplendor daquele lugar santo por meio de ritos ordenados e observância justa.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how disciplined ritual action—bathing, offering flowers, and making oblations with self-restraint—does not merely fulfill a rite but increases the sanctity of a sacred place. Ethical self-control (mind and senses) is presented as integral to the efficacy and dignity of religious practice.
At Gaṅgādvāra on the bank of the Gaṅgā, multiple ritual fires are kindled at different points. After bathing, the brāhmaṇa sages make floral offerings and pour oblations into the fires. Their collective, orderly rites enhance the splendor and holiness of the tīrtha.
