Nārada’s Account
गान्धार्याश्व यथा पुत्रास्तथा कुन्तीसुता मम । यथा च मम ते रक्ष्या धृतराष्ट्र तथा तव,धृतराष्ट्र! जैसे गान्धारीके पुत्र मेरे अपने हैं, उसी प्रकार कुन्तीके पुत्र भी हैं; इसीलिये जैसे मुझे पाण्डवोंकी रक्षा करनी चाहिये, वैसे तुम्हें भी
bhīṣma uvāca | gāndhāryāś ca yathā putrās tathā kuntīsutā mama | yathā ca mama te rakṣyā dhṛtarāṣṭra tathā tava, dhṛtarāṣṭra ||
Bhīṣma disse: “Assim como os filhos de Gāndhārī são para mim como filhos próprios, assim também os filhos de Kuntī o são. Portanto, como é meu dever proteger os Pāṇḍava, assim também é o teu, ó Dhṛtarāṣṭra.”
भीष्म उवाच
Bhishma teaches impartial guardianship: a ruler and elder must regard both branches of the family equally and protect the vulnerable, not favor one side out of attachment.
Bhishma addresses Dhritarashtra, reminding him that the Pandavas are as much his responsibility as the Kauravas, and urges him to uphold his duty by ensuring their protection.
