इहैव वर्तमानास्ते समीपे तव पार्थिव । अजातपक्षा: शिशव: शकिता नैव बाधितुम्,वीर! पहले भी तुमने अनेक गुप्त उपायोंद्वारा पाण्डवोंको दबानेकी चेष्टा की है, परंतु उनपर तुम्हारा वश नहीं चल सका। भूपाल! वे जब बच्चे थे और यहीं तुम्हारे पास रहते थे, उस समय उनके पक्षमें कोई नहीं था, तब भी तुम उन्हें बाधा पहुँचानेमें सफल न हो सके
ihaiva vartamānās te samīpe tava pārthiva | ajātapakṣāḥ śiśavaḥ śakitā naiva bādhitum ||
Karna disse: “Mesmo quando viviam aqui, bem perto de ti, ó rei—meras crianças, com as ‘asas’ ainda por crescer, sem partido que as amparasse—tu ainda assim não pudeste feri-los nem suprimi-los. Antes também tentaste muitos estratagemas secretos para manter os Pāṇḍavas abatidos, mas não conseguiste trazê-los ao teu controle.”
