Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel
dṛṣṭvā ca tad vismitās te babhūvus teṣām indras tatra śūro jagāma | so 'paśyad yoṣām atha pāvakaprabhāṃ yatra devī gaṅgā satataṃ prasūtā ||
Awe at the extraordinary should lead to discernment and purposeful investigation. Indra’s response models leadership: instead of remaining merely astonished, he seeks the origin and meaning of the event, aligning action with cosmic order.
The gods witness something astonishing and are amazed. Indra, the foremost among them, goes toward the source region of the river-goddess Gaṅgā, where her waters issue forth continuously, and there he sees a young woman shining with fire-like radiance.
