The verse highlights how war amplifies aggressive impulses and collective frenzy; it implicitly warns that when violence dominates, discernment and restraint—key supports of dharma—are easily overwhelmed.
Śaunaka describes the battlefield atmosphere: terrifying commands and shouts—ordering cutting down, splitting, charging, striking down, and pursuing—are heard everywhere, conveying the chaos and intensity of combat.
