अध्याय १८४ — भैक्षविभागः, शयनविधानम्, धृष्टद्युम्नस्य निवेदनम्
Alms Distribution, Night Lodging, and Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s Report
यज्ञसेनस्यथ कामस्तु पाण्डवाय किरीटिने । कृष्णां दद्यामिति सदा न चैतद् विवृणोति सः,राजा ट्रुपदके मनमें सदा यही इच्छा रहती थी कि मैं पाण्डुनन्दन अर्जुनके साथ द्रौपदीका ब्याह करूँ। परंतु वे अपने इस मनोभावको किसीपर प्रकट नहीं करते थे
yajñasenasya tha kāmas tu pāṇḍavāya kirīṭine | kṛṣṇāṃ dadyām iti sadā na caitad vivṛṇoti saḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: O rei Yajñasena (Drupada) acalentava constantemente o desejo: «Darei Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) ao Pāṇḍava de diadema, Arjuna». Contudo, não revelou essa intenção a ninguém.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores prudent restraint: even a righteous or strategic intention may be kept private until circumstances are ripe. It reflects a king’s careful governance—balancing personal resolve, political calculation, and the timing of disclosure.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Drupada (Yajñasena) has long intended to marry his daughter Draupadī (Kṛṣṇā) to Arjuna (Kirīṭin), but he keeps this plan unspoken, setting the stage for the events surrounding Draupadī’s svayaṃvara.
