Alms Distribution, Night Lodging, and Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s Report
मालां च समुपादाय काञ्चनीं समलंकृताम् । अवतीर्णा ततो रजझ्ुडं द्रौपदी भरतर्षभ,सोलहवें दिन अत्यन्त मनोहर समाज जुटा। भरतश्रेष्ठ) उसी दिन स्नान करके सुन्दर वस्त्र और सब प्रकारके आभूषणोंसे विभूषित हो हाथोंमें सोनेकी बनी हुई कामदार जयमाला लिये ट्रुपदराजकुमारी उस रंग-भूमिमें उतरी
mālāṃ ca samupādāya kāñcanīṃ samalaṅkṛtām | avatīrṇā tato raṅgabhūmiṃ draupadī bharatarṣabha ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: “Então Draupadī, segurando nas mãos uma grinalda de ouro ricamente adornada, desceu à arena, ó touro entre os Bharatas.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of public rites: personal choice is exercised within a framework of social responsibility, royal decorum, and dharma. The garland symbolizes selection, but also the accountability that follows a choice made before the community.
Draupadī enters the contest arena holding a decorated golden garland, signaling the formal commencement of the svayaṃvara proceedings in which she will indicate her chosen husband by placing the garland.
