The verse foregrounds how powerful personal desire—here, the longing for offspring and status as mother—can motivate requests that affect others’ identity and relationships. It invites ethical reflection on whether fulfilling one’s wish is justified when it requires altering a child’s natural bonds and perceptions.
A woman identified as Pārṣatī sees two children and, yearning for a son, goes to the sage Yāja seeking refuge. She asks him to grant a favor so that the two children will regard only her as their mother and no one else.
