Kuntī’s Counsel on Departing for Pāñcāla
Vyāsa reframes suffering through the lens of dharma: the exile is caused by the Kauravas’ adharma, yet the wise should not collapse into despair. Endurance and clarity in adversity can serve a larger, future good, especially when one’s own conduct remains aligned with dharma.
After the Pāṇḍavas have been unjustly expelled from their kingdom by the Dhārtarāṣṭras, Vyāsa arrives and addresses them. He states that he had foreseen the misfortune, recognizes the unrighteousness of their banishment, and urges them not to grieve because his visit and counsel are meant for their ultimate welfare.
