Hiḍimbā’s Account and the Bhīma–Hiḍimba Engagement (आदि पर्व, अध्याय १४२)
समा हि कौरवेयाणां वयं ते चैव पुत्रक । नैते विषममिच्छेयुर्थर्मयुक्ता मनस्विन:,बेटा! इन सभी कुरुवंशियोंके लिये हमलोग और पाण्डव समान हैं। ये धर्मपरायण मनस्वी महापुरुष उनके प्रति विषम व्यवहार करना नहीं चाहेंगे
samā hi kauraveyāṇāṃ vayaṃ te caiva putraka | naite viṣamam iccheyur dharmayuktā manasvinaḥ ||
Dhṛtarāṣṭra disse: “Meu filho, para todos os descendentes de Kuru, tanto nós quanto os filhos de Pāṇḍu somos igualmente queridos e igualmente nossos. Esses homens de grande alma, firmes no dharma, não desejarão agir com parcialidade ou injustiça para com eles.”
धृतराष्ट उवाच
The verse emphasizes dharma as impartiality: noble, dharma-guided persons should not desire unequal or biased treatment within the same family line; justice must be even-handed.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra addresses his son affectionately and argues that both branches of the Kuru family—his own and the Pāṇḍavas—are equally related, implying that righteous elders would not support discriminatory conduct against the Pāṇḍavas.
