Bhīma’s Search for Water and the Forest Halt
पाञ्चालस्य रथस्येषामाप्लुत्य सहसापतत् । पाञज्चालरथमास्थाय अवित्रस्तो धनंजय:,और सहसा पंचालनरेशके रथके डंडेपर कूद पड़े। इस प्रकार ट्रुपदके रथपर चढ़कर निर्भीक अर्जुनने जैसे गरुड़ समुद्रको क्षुब्ध करके सर्पको पकड़ लेता है, उसी प्रकार उन्हें अपने काबूमें कर लिया। तब समस्त पांचाल सैनिक (भयभीत हो) दसों दिशाओंमें भागने लगे
pāñcālasya rathasyeṣām āplutya sahasāpatat | pāñcālaratham āsthāya avitrasto dhanaṃjayaḥ |
Vaiśampāyana disse: Arjuna, destemido, saltou de súbito para o timão do carro do rei de Pāñcāla. Subindo naquele carro, Dhanaṃjaya pô-los sob seu domínio—como Garuḍa, após revolver o oceano, apanha uma serpente. Então todo o exército de Pāñcāla, tomado de medo, fugiu nas dez direções.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The passage highlights kṣatriya-dharma expressed as fearless resolve and decisive action: a single courageous, well-timed move can break an opponent’s morale and avert prolonged bloodshed by compelling retreat.
Arjuna suddenly leaps onto the drawbar of the Pāñcāla king’s chariot, mounts it, and subdues the situation with overwhelming prowess (likened to Garuḍa seizing a serpent). Terrified, the Pāñcāla soldiers scatter and flee in all directions.
