एवमुक्तस्तत: कर्ण: किंचित्प्रस्फुरिताधर: । गगनस्थं विनि:श्वस्य दिवाकरमुदैक्षत,भीमसेनके यों कहनेपर क्रोधके मारे कर्णका होठ कुछ काँपने लगा और उसने लंबी साँस लेकर आकाशमण्डलमें स्थित भगवान् सूर्यकी ओर देखा
evam uktas tataḥ karṇaḥ kiñcit prasphuritādharaḥ | gaganasthaṁ viniḥśvasya divākaram udaikṣata ||
Assim interpelado, o lábio inferior de Karṇa tremeu de leve, em ira contida. Tomando um longo fôlego, ergueu o olhar para o Sol, posto no firmamento—como quem se volta à sua fonte divina para se firmar e reunir determinação antes de responder.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights emotional discipline: even when provoked, Karṇa checks the surge of anger, takes a deep breath, and turns his mind toward a higher reference (the Sun, his divine father), suggesting steadiness and inner restraint before action or speech.
After being spoken to (contextually, in response to Bhīmasena’s words as reflected in the accompanying Hindi gloss), Karṇa shows visible signs of anger—his lip trembles—then he exhales deeply and looks up at the Sun in the sky, a gesture of recollection, appeal, or gathering resolve.
