Entry into Vāraṇāvata and Suspicion of the Lac-House

अथ तौ नित्यसंहृष्टोी सुयोधनवृकोदरौ । अवतीर्णों गदाहस्तावेकशुड्राविवाचलौ,तदनन्तर सदा एक-दूसरेको जीतनेका उत्साह रखनेवाले दुर्योधन और भीमसेन हाथमें गदा लिये रंगभूमिमें उतरे। उस समय वे एक-एक शिखरवाले दो पर्वतोंकी भाँति शोभा पा रहे थे

atha tau nitya-saṁhṛṣṭau suyodhana-vṛkodarau | avatīrṇau gadā-hastāv eka-śṛṅgāv iva acalau ||

Dhṛtarāṣṭra disse: Então aqueles dois—Suyodhana (Duryodhana) e Vṛkodara (Bhīma)—sempre exultantes e ávidos por vencer um ao outro, desceram à arena com as maças nas mãos. Naquele momento pareciam esplêndidos e inabaláveis, como duas montanhas, cada qual coroada por um único cume—imagem que intensifica o pressentimento do conflito iminente e o perigo de uma rivalidade movida pelo orgulho na casa dos Kuru.
