Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial
The verse teaches that true prosperity and honor are understood as arising through divine grace and dharmic destiny: a worthy child is portrayed as a boon that increases a mother’s joy, paralleling Aditi’s joy when Viṣṇu manifested for the gods’ welfare.
Vaiśampāyana delivers a prophetic reassurance: the child named Arjuna will be Viṣṇu-like and will increase the listener’s happiness, just as Viṣṇu once increased Aditi’s joy—an allusion to Viṣṇu’s beneficent intervention for cosmic order.
