Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 113 — Maryādā-sthāpana (Śvetaketu’s Boundary) and the Niyoga Deliberation of Pāṇḍu and Kuntī
yuktarūpo hi sambandhe tvaṃ no rājan vayaṃ tava | etat saṃcintya madreśa gṛhāṇāsmān yathāvidhi ||
The verse emphasizes dharmic propriety in forming alliances: suitability (yuktarūpa) must be mutually recognized, and acceptance should occur through prescribed, orderly rites (yathāvidhi), reflecting ethical restraint and social legitimacy.
A speaker (reported by Vaiśampāyana) urges the king of Madra to consider the mutual suitability of the parties and to accept the proposed relationship formally, following proper ritual and royal procedure.
