The verse underscores vigilance and preparedness within a socially mandated duty connected to lineage. It also hints at the ethical pressure that can accompany obligations concerning progeny and family continuity.
A message is delivered to Kausalyā: a brother-in-law will come that night, specifically at midnight, to approach her for conception. She is instructed to remain alert and to wait for his arrival.
