Pāṇḍu’s Gifts, Forest Residence, and Vidura’s Marriage

Educational Q&A

The passage highlights the dharmic pressure to preserve lineage and political stability, while also showing how inner states (fear, aversion, composure) can shape outcomes—suggesting that duty performed without steadiness of mind may carry unintended consequences.

Kausalyā gives birth to a blind son. Afterwards the queen (in the surrounding narrative, Satyavatī) counsels another daughter-in-law and again arranges conception through Vyāsa by niyoga; on seeing Vyāsa, the woman becomes pale and loses her radiance.
