अब्रवीद्‌ भारतं॑ लोके मानुषे5स्मिन्‌ महानृषि: । जनमेजयेन पृष्ट: सन्‌ ब्राह्मणैश्व सहस्रश:

Transliteration

abravīd bhārataṁ loke mānuṣe 'smin mahānṛṣiḥ | janamejayena pṛṣṭaḥ san brāhmaṇaiś ca sahasraśaḥ ||

Translation

O grande sábio proclamou o Bhārata neste mundo dos homens—tendo sido interrogado pelo rei Janamejaya e, também, repetidas vezes por milhares de brāhmaṇas. Assim, a epopeia se apresenta como ensinamento sagrado, proferido em resposta a uma indagação sincera, destinado à orientação moral e espiritual da sociedade.
