अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope
तत्राजगाम विघ्नेशो वेदव्यासो यतः स्थित: । पूजितश्लोपविष्ट श्न॒ व्यासेनोक्तस्तदाउनघ,निष्पाप शौनक! तदनन्तर सत्यवतीनन्दन व्यासजीने भगवान् गणेशका स्मरण किया और स्मरण करते ही भक्तवांछाकल्पतरु विष्नेश्वर श्रीगणेशजी महाराज वहाँ आये, जहाँ व्यासजी विद्यमान थे। व्यासजीने गणेशजीका बड़े आदर और प्रेमसे स्वागत-सत्कार किया और वे जब बैठ गये, तब उनसे कहा--
tatrājagāma vighneśo vedavyāso yataḥ sthitaḥ | pūjitaś copaviṣṭaś ca vyāsenoktas tadā anagha śaunaka |
Então Vighneśa (Gaṇeśa) veio ao lugar onde Vedavyāsa estava sentado. Depois de devidamente honrado, assentou-se; e então Vyāsa lhe dirigiu a palavra. Ó Śaunaka sem mácula, este é o início da colaboração sagrada em que reverência, humildade e reta intenção removem os obstáculos para uma grande obra destinada ao bem do mundo.
