अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope
अभिवाद्य मुनींस्तांस्तु सर्वानेव कृताञ्जलि: । अपृच्छत् स तपोवृद्धि सद्धिश्वैवाभिपूजित:,उम्रश्रवाजीनी पहले हाथ जोड़कर उन सभी मुनियोंकों अभिवादन किया और “आपलोगोंकी तपस्या सुखपूर्वक बढ़ रही है न?” इस प्रकार कुशल-प्रश्न किया। उन सत्पुरुषोंने भी उग्रश्रवाजीका भलीभाँति स्वागत-सत्कार किया
abhivādya munīṁs tāṁs tu sarvān eva kṛtāñjaliḥ | apṛcchat sa tapo-vṛddhiṁ sadbhiś caivābhipūjitaḥ ||
Tendo saudado respeitosamente todos aqueles munis, com as mãos postas, perguntou pelo bem-estar e pelo incremento de suas austeridades—se a penitência deles prosperava com tranquilidade. Os sábios virtuosos, por sua vez, honraram e acolheram Ugraśravas com o respeito devido.
