bhṛṅgīśaḥ piṅgalākṣo 'sau bhasitāśastu dehayuk śivārcanarataḥ śrīmān sa me pāpaṃ vyapohatu
Suta Goswami (narrating a devotional eulogy/prayer within the Linga Purana’s Purva-Bhaga)
It highlights Śiva-arcana (worship of Śiva/Liṅga) as intrinsically purifying, showing that devotion—marked outwardly by bhasma—invokes grace that dispels pāpa (demerit).
Śiva is implied as Pati, the Lord whose proximity and worship grant purification; even His devotee/gaṇa (Bhṛṅgīśa) becomes a conduit of that sanctifying power, indicating Śiva’s grace operating through His śivabhaktas.
Bhasma-dhāraṇa (wearing sacred ash) and Śiva-arcana (formal worship) are emphasized—classic Pāśupata-leaning markers of discipline aimed at loosening pāśa (bondage) for the paśu (individual soul).
