Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda)

Concept: Moksha arises from knowing the true dependence of creation on the Supreme (prasāda) and grasping reality as it is; no other means substitutes for this right knowledge.

Vedantic Theme: Brahma-kāraṇatva and īśvara-prasāda; jñāna-niṣṭhā as the decisive cause of liberation (with grace as enabling condition).

Application: Cultivate śāstra-based contemplation on the Lord as the ultimate cause; integrate daily remembrance that all capacities and outcomes arise by divine grace; prioritize discernment (viveka) over mere ritualism when seeking liberation.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Related Themes: Garuda Purana (Brahma-khanda/Acara-khanda) passages emphasizing Vishnu as cause and moksha through knowledge and devotion (general thematic parallel); Pretakalpa sections that contrast ritual merit with liberating knowledge (general thematic parallel)

FAQs

The verse states that Brahmā’s act of creation occurs by Vishnu’s grace, emphasizing that ultimate causality and spiritual fruition depend on the Supreme’s favor, not merely individual effort.

It declares that liberation comes from knowing the truth “thus” (evaṁ jñātvā)—i.e., understanding the divine source behind creation—and insists there is no alternative route to moksha.

Cultivate right understanding of the divine order (through study, reflection, and devotion) and align actions with that insight, treating spiritual knowledge and humility before grace as central to liberation.
