Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Concept: Rasāyana is defined functionally: whatever truly destroys jarā (senescence) and vyādhi (disease) merits the name—an epistemic criterion grounded in effect.
Vedantic Theme: Instrumental valuation of the body: health is a means, not the end; discernment (viveka) in naming/valuing practices by their transformative result.
Application: Evaluate therapies by demonstrated capacity to reduce disease burden and improve vitality; cultivate sustainable rejuvenation through diet, conduct, and (where appropriate) validated rasāyana practices.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Type: herbal grove/vaidya’s workspace
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.172 (viṣa-hara remedies culminating in rasāyana reflection)
This verse defines rasāyana as any remedy that counteracts aging and disease, framing rejuvenation as a recognized spiritual-medical category within the text.
It does not describe the after-death journey here; instead, it focuses on preserving life and health through rasāyana, a preparatory support for dharmic living.
Treat rasāyana as disciplined rejuvenation—diet, safe medicines, and routines aimed at reducing disease and premature decline (with qualified medical guidance).
