Puṁsavana / Viṣṇu-vrata: Worship of Lakṣmī-Nārāyaṇa for Auspicious Progeny and Fortune
कन्या च विन्देत समग्रलक्षणं पतिं त्ववीरा हतकिल्बिषां गतिम् । मृतप्रजा जीवसुता धनेश्वरी सुदुर्भगा सुभगा रूपमग्र्यम् ॥ २६ ॥ विन्देद्विरूपा विरुजा विमुच्यते य आमयावीन्द्रियकल्यदेहम् । एतत्पठन्नभ्युदये च कर्म- ण्यनन्ततृप्ति: पितृदेवतानाम् ॥ २७ ॥ तुष्टा: प्रयच्छन्ति समस्तकामान् होमावसाने हुतभुक् श्रीहरिश्च । राजन् महन्मरुतां जन्म पुण्यं दितेर्व्रतं चाभिहितं महत्ते ॥ २८ ॥ नैवोद्विजे पर दुरत्ययवैतरण्या- स्त्वद्वीर्यगायनमहामृतमग्नचित्त: । शोचे ततो विमुखचेतस इन्द्रियार्थ- मायासुखाय भरमुद्वहतो विमूढान् ॥ ४३ ॥
kanyā ca vindeta samagra-lakṣaṇaṁ patiṁ tv avīrā hata-kilbiṣāṁ gatim mṛta-prajā jīva-sutā dhaneśvarī sudurbhagā subhagā rūpam agryam
Ao observar este vrata, uma jovem solteira obtém um esposo excelente, dotado de todos os sinais auspiciosos. Uma mulher ‘avīrā’—sem marido ou sem filho—ao executar esta cerimônia fica livre de faltas e alcança um destino espiritual elevado. A mulher cujos filhos morrem após o nascimento obtém um filho de longa vida e torna-se afortunada em riquezas; a desafortunada torna-se afortunada, e a de feia aparência alcança a melhor beleza. O homem doente livra-se da enfermidade e recebe um corpo saudável para cumprir seu dever. Se este relato for recitado enquanto se oferecem oblações aos Pitṛs e aos devas, especialmente na cerimônia de śrāddha, eles ficam extremamente satisfeitos e concedem a realização de todos os desejos. Ao término do homa, Śrī Hari (Viṣṇu) e Śrī Lakṣmī ficam grandemente satisfeitos.
