द्रौपदी-शैब्यसंवादः — Draupadī’s Identification and Counsel on Hospitality
त्वमेव न: कुले राजा भविष्यसि शतं समा: । एवमुक्त्वा स राजान सुस्वरं प्ररुरोद ह
tvam eva naḥ kule rājā bhaviṣyasi śataṃ samāḥ | evam uktvā sa rājānaṃ susvaraṃ praruroda ha ||
“ਸਾਡੇ ਕੁਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੀ ਸੌ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਹੋਗੇ।” ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਉੱਚੀ, ਸਾਫ਼ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਰੋ ਪਿਆ।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the dharma of kingship and lineage: rightful sovereignty is not merely power but a responsibility carried for the welfare and continuity of the family and realm; the speaker’s tears highlight the emotional and ethical gravity of that duty.
A figure addresses the king with a blessing/assurance that he will rule their dynasty for a hundred years; immediately after saying this, he breaks into loud, clear weeping before the king, signaling deep feeling—perhaps relief, devotion, or sorrow tied to the situation.
