Brāhmaṇas Follow into Exile and Śaunaka’s Instruction

A householder’s dharma is to prioritize others and ritual duty: feed dependents/guests first, offer the prescribed bali and vaiśvadeva, and only then eat what remains—treating such remainder as disciplined, sanctified sustenance.
Yudhiṣṭhira states a rule of conduct for householders, defining two kinds of ‘remainder’—vighasa (after people have eaten) and amṛta (after offerings)—and recommends that daily eating be aligned with these dharmic priorities.
