एतदिच्छाम्यहं श्रोतुं विस्तरेण तपोधन । कथ्यमानं त्वया विप्र राज्ञां चरितमुत्तमम्,तपोधन! विप्रवर! मैं यह प्रसंग, जिसमें राजाओंके उत्तम चरित्रका वर्णन है, आपके मुखसे विस्तारपूर्वक सुनना चाहता हूँ
etad icchāmy ahaṃ śrotuṃ vistareṇa tapodhana | kathyamānaṃ tvayā vipra rājñāṃ caritam uttamam ||
ਯੁਧਿਸ਼ਠਿਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—“ਹੇ ਤਪੋਧਨ! ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਵਿਸਤਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਹੇ ਵਿਪ੍ਰ! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਉੱਤਮ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਆਚਰਨ ਦਾ ਕਥਨ ਕਰੋ।”
