धघतयाट्र उवाच यानिहाहुः स्वस्य धर्मस्य लोकान् द्विजातीनां पुण्यकृतां सनातनान् । तेषां क्रमान् कथय ततो<पि चान्यान् नैतद् विद्वन् वेत्तुमिच्छामि कर्म
dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca | yān ihāhuḥ svasya dharmasya lokān dvijātīnāṃ puṇyakṛtāṃ sanātanān | teṣāṃ kramān kathaya tato 'pi cānyān naitad vidvan vettum icchāmi karma ||
ਧ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ—ਹੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ, ਪੁੰਨ-ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਵਿਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮ-ਫਲ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਨਾਤਨ ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਦੱਸੋ; ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਿੰਨ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰੋ। ਮੈਂ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ (ਸਕਾਮ) ਕਰਮ ਬਾਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ।
