Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace
मानध्नस्यासौ मानकामस्य चेर्षो: संरम्भिणक्षार्थधर्मातिगस्य । दुर्भाषिणो मन्युवशानुगस्य कामात्मनो दौहदैर्भावितस्य
sañjaya uvāca | mānadhnasya asau mānakāmasya ca īrṣoḥ saṃrambhiṇaḥ artha-dharma-ātigasya | durbhāṣiṇaḥ manyu-vaśānugasya kāmātmano dauhadaiḥ bhāvitasya ||
ਸੰਜਯ ਬੋਲਿਆ—ਉਹ ਐਸਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਾਣ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਈਰਖਾਲੂ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧੀ ਤੇ ਉਗਰ; ਅਰਥ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ—ਦੋਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਲੰਘਣ ਵਾਲਾ; ਕੜਵੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ; ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿੱਚ; ਭੋਗ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਦਾ ਗੁਲਾਮ; ਅਤੇ ਸਵਾਰਥੀ ਇੱਛਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਘੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਐਸੇ ਦੁਰਯੋਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਿਯ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਧ੍ਰਿਤਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਨੇ ਜਾਣਦਿਆਂ-ਬੁੱਝਦਿਆਂ ਧਰਮ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
