भीष्मस्य सेनापत्यप्रतिज्ञा तथा रथसंख्यावर्णनम् | Bhishma Accepts Command and Enumerates Kaurava Strength
अवश्यं च मया कार्य पूर्वेषां चरितं महत् । कर्ता चाहं तथा कर्म यथा नान्य: करिष्यति,“मुझे अपने पूर्वजोंके महान् चरित्रका अनुकरण अवश्य करना चाहिये। अतः मैं युद्धमें वह पराक्रम कर दिखाऊँगा, जैसा दूसरा कोई नहीं करेगा”
avaśyaṃ ca mayā kāryaṃ pūrveṣāṃ caritaṃ mahat | kartā cāhaṃ tathā karma yathā nānyaḥ kariṣyati |
ਸੰਜਯ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੂਰਵਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਦਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਹੀ ਅਨੁਕਰਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯੁੱਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਂ ਐਸੇ ਕਰਤੱਬ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ, ਐਸਾ ਪਰਾਕ੍ਰਮ ਵਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ, ਜੋ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੇਗਾ।
