Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 106: Pūrva-Diśa Praśaṃsā
Praise and Primacy of the Eastern Quarter
सुहृद् भवान् मम मतः सुहृदां च मत: सुहृत् । ईप्सितेनाभिलाषेण योक्तव्यो विभवे सति
suhṛd bhavān mama mataḥ suhṛdāṃ ca mataḥ suhṛt | īpsitenābhilāṣeṇa yoktavyo vibhave sati |
ਨਾਰਦ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ— “ਗਾਲਵ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੁਹਿਰਦ ਹੈਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਹਿਰਦਾਂ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸੁਹਿਰਦ ਹੈਂ। ਸੁਹਿਰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ—ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਕੋਲ ਧਨ-ਵੈਭਵ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਅਭੀਸ਼ਟ ਇੱਛਾ ਅਤੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੇ।”
