सस्यानां सर्वबीजानामेषा सांवत्सरी भृति: । न च वैश्यस्य काम: स्यान्न रक्षेयं पशूनिति

Transliteration

sasyānām sarvabījānām eṣā sāṁvatsarī bhṛtiḥ | na ca vaiśyasya kāmaḥ syān na rakṣeyaṁ paśūn iti ||

Translation

ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਫਸਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਬੀਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਮਜ਼ਦੂਰੀ ਹੈ: ਉਪਜ ਦਾ ਸੱਤਵਾਂ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਵੈਸ਼੍ਯ ਲਵੇ। ਅਤੇ ਵੈਸ਼੍ਯ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਦੇ ਇਹ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾ ਉੱਠੇ—“ਮੈਂ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ‑ਰੱਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।”
