Paraśurāma’s origins and the depletion/restoration of kṣatriya lineages
एतेषां पितरश्रैव तथैव च पितामहा: । मदर्थ निहता युद्धे रामेणाक्लिष्टकर्मणा
eteṣāṃ pitaraś caiva tathaiva ca pitāmahāḥ | mad-arthaṃ nihatā yuddhe rāmeṇākliṣṭa-karmaṇā ||
ਵਾਸੁਦੇਵ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ— “ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਉ ਅਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਾਦੇ ਵੀ, ਮੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਮ (ਪਰਸ਼ੁਰਾਮ) ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ—ਜੋ ਅਕਲਿਸ਼ਟਕਰਮਾ ਹਨ—ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਸਮਝੋ ਕਿ ‘ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ’ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਰਮ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਵਿਰਾਸਤੀ ਬੋਝ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਜੋ ਅਗਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਰ, ਰੋਸ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਜ਼-ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।”
