The verse emphasizes disciplined listening and receptivity: ethical and dharmic instruction is best received with a focused, single-pointed mind, and the authority of the teaching is grounded in a revered sage-tradition (Kashyapa).
Bhishma introduces a sacred, uplifting story previously told by the sage Kashyapa and invites the listener to hear it attentively as part of the Shanti Parva’s broader instruction on dharma and right conduct.
