Bhrigu–Bharadvaja Dialogue: A Karma-Based Account of Varṇa
वैश्य: कश्चिदृषिसुतं काश्यपं संशितव्रतम् । रथेन पातयामास श्रीमान् दृप्तस्तपस्विनम्
bhīṣma uvāca | vaiśyaḥ kaścid ṛṣisutaṃ kāśyapaṃ saṃśitavratam | rathena pātayāmāsa śrīmān dṛptas tapasvinam ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ— ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਇੱਕ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਵੈਸ਼੍ਯ ਨੇ ਕਠੋਰ ਵਰਤ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤਪਸਵੀ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ-ਪੁੱਤਰ ਕਾਸ਼੍ਯਪ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਥ ਨਾਲ ਧੱਕਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਡਾਹ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
