तेषां रुदितशब्देन गृश्रो5भ्येत्य वचो<ब्रवीत् । एकात्मजमिमं लोके त्यक्त्वा गच्छत मा चिरम्
teṣāṁ ruditāśabdena gṛdhro ’bhyetya vaco ’bravīt | ekātmajam imaṁ loke tyaktvā gacchata mā ciram ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ— ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਣ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਖਿੱਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਇੱਕ ਗਿੱਧ ਉੱਥੇ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲਿਆ— “ਹੇ ਲੋਕੋ! ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਇਕੱਲੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਜਾਓ; ਦੇਰ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਇੱਥੇ ਕਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਿਆਂਦੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਮਰਦ ਆ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ-ਬੰਧੂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।”
