Balarāma’s Pilgrimage Context
ब्रह्मचर्यरतो नित्यं सदा धर्मपरायण: । ततो<भ्येत्य महाभाग योगमास्थाय भिक्षुक:
brahmacaryarato nityaṃ sadā dharmaparāyaṇaḥ | tato 'bhyetya mahābhāga yogam āsthāya bhikṣukaḥ ||
ਵੈਸ਼ੰਪਾਯਨ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਉਹ ਨਿੱਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਰਯ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਧਰਮਪਰਾਇਣ ਸੀ। ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਮਹਾਭਾਗ ਯੋਗ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਭਿਖਸ਼ੂ ਵਾਂਗ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights ethical strength through sustained self-restraint (brahmacarya), unwavering commitment to dharma, and the adoption of yogic discipline—suggesting that inner governance and duty-oriented living are marks of true nobility.
The narrator describes an illustrious person who, after being firmly established in brahmacarya and dharma, approaches a situation/person and takes up a yogic, mendicant way of life—signaling a shift toward ascetic conduct and spiritual resolve.
